Two suspected car snatchers arrested

arrestedThe combined bravery of a taxi driver and the timely intervention of the police prevented a four-member suspected car-snatching gang, including a lady, from bolting with a KIA Pride taxi.

Two of them, Sirakus Boo, 23, and Georgina Tam (the lady), are being held by the Abuakwa Police whilst their other colleagues, known only as Peter and Darious, escaped.

A locally manufactured pistol, four live cartridges and two sharp knives were seized from them.

A press release signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Yusif Tanko of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, said the gang had engaged the services of the driver to take them in his taxi from Pampaso to Abuakwa at about midnight on Sunday, July 15.

It said on reaching an obscure section of the road, between Tanoso and Abuakwa, they ordered the driver to stop and that aroused his suspicion.

He defied their instruction and sped towards a police checkpoint and as they got closer to the checkpoint they engaged him in a fierce struggle.

That attracted the attention of the police officers on-duty, who quickly moved to the scene to arrest the two. The others, however, managed to flee.

It said a manhunt by the police is underway to arrest the fugitives and bring them to justice.
