Accra driver in court for robbery

law-and-justiceIshmael Clottey, a driver, has been arraigned at an Accra circuit court for robbery contrary to section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act.

Ishmael was said to have committed the robbery at Kaneshie in the Greater Accra Region.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence, but was remanded into prison custody to reappear on August 2, 2013.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh said the complainant is a student resident at Kaneshie while the accused person lives at Zongo Junction.

He said on July 13, 2013 at about 1130 hours, the complainant was walking home together with two friends from Kaneshie First Light towards the foot bridge when the accused and two others at large, armed with machete, attacked them.

DSP Agyemang said the accused and his cohorts ordered him to surrender his mobile phone and all other items on him,

He said they succeeded in collecting the complainant’s Samsung mobile phone and a wallet containing National Health Insurance Identity Card, receipts, students ID and a cash of GH¢11.00.

He said the accused, after the act, inflicted wounds on the left hand fingers of the complainant and bolted, but was later arrested by a mob with the machete and a coca-cola bottle concealed in his trousers.

According to the prosecution, a search conducted on the accused revealed the complainant’s mobile phone and a bunch of keys, which were handed-over to the Police.

DSP Agyemang told the court that during investigations, Ishmael admitted the offence and said he used a pair of scissors instead of a machete.
