Police intensifies patrol duties in Winneba

Ghana PoliceThe Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command, says it has intensified patrol duties to clamp down on armed robbery cases which are on ascendancy in the Winneba Municipality.

The Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Richard Nana Asomah, who made this known at a media briefing at Agona on Friday, said Police personnel from Kasoa and Agona Swedru Districts have joined their colleagues in Winneba for 24-hour patrol duties.

He said since April17 robbery attacks on households, have been recorded in Winneba Municipality.

ACP Asomah said a 14 year-old girl was raped whilst Kwame Manu, a taxi driver, was killed.

He said properties including personal belongings such as laptop computers, vehicles and cash were stolen by the robbers during the attacks.

According to the Divisional Commander three suspects were arrested on June 16 at Winneba low Cost Residential area.

He gave their names as Alfred Mensah, Benedict Acquah alias Boboski and Kwame Emmanuel Coffie alias Killo, from Apremdo near Takoradi in the Western Region.

The Commander said during an identification parade in Winneba on June 18, some residents identified the suspects as members of a group who attacked them at their houses at gun-point, raped and robbed them off their valuable items and cash.

ACP Nana Asomah, said the accused persons were on 19 June, remanded in Police Custody by the Winneba Magistrate Court presided over by Mr Richard Owusu Nssiah to reappear June, 26 2013 at a High Court in Agona Swedru.
