The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital has inaugurated a new ward built at a cost of $1 million.

The new facility, called “Otumfuo Osei II Medical Complex”, has among others, a pharmacy, physiotherapy, dental and endoscopy units, doctors’ rest room, laundry, and conference rooms a presidential suite, 35-air-conditioned private rooms with internet facility and alarm system.

The project was funded by the University with a loan from OIKO CREDIT, contracted through Amalgamated Bank (now Bank of Africa).

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, speaking at the inauguration, said unlike the other wards of the hospital, where cost is subsidized, the new ward would operate at full-cost recovery because it would provide relatively better services and higher degree of privacy and comfort.

He said the authorities had also over the years constructed a dental, eye and students’ clinics and acquired modern equipment to improve health care.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene and Chancellor of the University, in a speech read on his behalf, praised the staff of the hospital for their dedicated service and professionalism.

He encouraged them to continue to work hard to save lives and bring comfort to the sick.

The Asantehene urged management of the hospital to ensure efficient and effective use of the new facility.
