UN holds peace programme in ‘conflict-prone’ Bawku

UNThe United Nations (UN) Joint Programme on Human Security (UNJPHS), on Wednesday organized a-day’s programme on peace drama in Bawku.

It formed part of efforts to use stage performance to achieve peace in Bawku and other conflict prone areas.

The pilot programme, which was facilitated by National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), was initiated by the UNJPHS and NCCE to help maintain peace towards development in conflict prone areas.

Assembly members, artisans, members of women’s groups and political parties participated in the programme..

Mr. Patrick Azika, a theater for development specialist, said stage performance highlighted on causes and effects of conflicts on society.

Mr Jacob Gomez Adongo, Bawku Municipal Director for the NCCE, said the programme sought to empower individuals, organizations and institutions to be able to prevent conflict in the northern part of the country.

He appealed to the people to avoid conflict, promote peace and work hard for the development of their communities.
