Rubbish left on streets after clean-up exercise in Sekondi-Takoradi

waste 3The heaps of rubbish left at the shoulders of gutters and drains in the twin-city after a clean-up exercise organised by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) over the weekend had still not been collected.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) team which went round some suburbs of the Sekondi-Takoradi noticed that most of the refuse, which should have been disposed off after the exercise, were left unattended to.

Akua Ampoma, a trader in Takoradi, who spoke to the GNA, blamed Zoomlion sanitation workers for failing to perform their duties.

According to her, it was the duty of the workers to collect the refuse and accused a Zoomlion sanitation worker, who swept a portion of the Takoradi Market and left the rubbish behind.

In an interview with the GNA, Mr. Opoku Boateng, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the STMA, disclosed that the assembly had planned a three-day mop-up exercise to clear all rubbish from the streets.

He said the exercise was collaboration between the STMA and its waste service providers and other private organisations to ensure a clean Sekondi-Takoradi.
