Footballer in court for drug charges

law-and-justiceAbdulai Halid, 30, a footballer has appeared before an Accra circuit court for possessing substances suspected to be Narcotic drugs.

Abdulai was arrested at New Achimota with 64 wraps of substances and 10 wraps of whitish powdered substances in a black polythene bag.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was remanded into Police custody to reappear on June 26, 2013.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Peter Sekyi said on June 1, 2013, Police personnel gathered intelligence and went on an inspection, which led them to a drug peddling spot at Abofu in New Achimota.

He said the accused was seen at the spot selling the substances to people around him, and took to his heels on seeing the Police, but was later arrested.

The prosecution said upon his arrest the police took custody of the black polythene bag and found 64 wraps of rocky substances and 10 wraps of whitish powdered substances.

He said the accused in his caution statement claimed ownership of the substances but failed to lead the team to his supplier.
