Farmer murders rival over woman

prisonA 29-year old farmer at Mframakrom near Bibiani, has been arrested by the Police for allegedly murdering a colleague farmer over the love of a woman.

Shadrack Antwi appeared before the Bibiani Magistrate Court presided over by Mr Osei Kofi Amoako on Thursday, and was ordered to be held in prison custody.

His plea was not taken and he would re-appear on Monday June 3.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Michael Agbaglo told the court that the accused and the deceased are both farmers.

Antwi and one Lydia Werekoaa, a petty trader, had been lovers but things started going wrong leading to a break-up last year.

The lady entered into a new relationship with the deceased, Kwaku Badu and mad with jealousy, the accused ambushed and slashed him to death with a machete on May 5 at about 11:55 hours, while he was returning together with Lydia from a visit to a nearby farming community “Yaw- Johnkrom”.

The prosecution said Antwi fled after the crime but run out of luck when some young men from Mframakrom spotted him at the Antwi-Agyei Police Checkpoint on May 16, and raised the alarm.

He was quickly seized and sent to the Bibiani Police Station.
