Offinso taxi drivers withdraw services due to bad roads

untarred roadTaxi drivers in the Offinso Municipality on Monday withdrew their services to protest against the bad road network in the area.

They said the deplorable nature of the roads had led to high operating costs part of which is due to the frequent breakdown of their vehicles.

Mr Amankwah Kusi Manu, Secretary of the Offinso Taxi Union, described the situation as unacceptable saying urgency was needed in repairing the roads else their transport businesses would collapse as the rains set in, hence their protest.

He said they have been paying their taxes and road tolls expecting a routine maintenance of the roads and anything short of that is unacceptable.

The drivers said they have sent several petitions to both the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Member of Parliament (MP) but things have remained unchanged.

The police had earlier refused the drivers permission to demonstrate due to the inadequacy of personnel to provide the needed security protection.

With this the drivers decided to park their vehicles causing a lot of inconvenience to travellers.
