65 GYEEDA trainees pass-out at Ve-Golokwati

The youth have been urged to take advantage of the skills training programme being provided by the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) to establish themselves.

Mrs Angela Oforiwa Alorwu Tay, District Chief Executive for Afadzato South who gave the advice, said GYEEDA was instituted by government to address the unemployment problem facing the country.

Mrs Tay said this during a passing-out ceremony of 65 girls who were trained in hairdressing and were each presented with hair dryers and accessories to start their own businesses.

She said white-collar jobs were difficult to obtain these days hence the decision of government to place emphasis on the private sector.

“The government regards the private sector as the engine of growth and is making every effort to promote the sector,” the DCE said and urged the youth to ensure that they found the right occupation to earn a decent living.

Mrs Tay appealed to the trainees to respect their mistresses saying “do not think that because you have passed-out, you no longer have anything to do with the person who has made you what you are now. Do stay connected.”

She also cautioned the trainees against selling the dryers which were presented to them free of charge.

Mr Moses Yao Kumah, Director of GYEEDA in charge of Hohoe Municipality and Afadzato South District, said government wanted to use GYEEDA as a means to alleviate poverty and appealed to the trainees to make good use of their training.

Miss Jane Atsu, a trainee, expressed gratitude to government for providing them with skills and start-up equipment to make them self-employed.
