Spiritualist, three others face court for defrauding

law-and-justiceA spiritualist and three other people on Monday appeared before the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy and defrauding by false pretence.

The pleas of Nana Akua Serwah alias Osofo Mame, a spiritualist, Samuel Adu, a driver, Kofi Akese alias Alex Brako, farmer, and Kofi Wadie, businessman, whose pleas were not taken, would reappear in the court on May 23.

Police Chief Inspector Alice Appiakorang, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant is a businessman residing at Akyem Kokobeng in the Birim South District.

The complainant has a large cocoa farm which he wanted to sell and went round looking for prospective buyers.

The prosecutor said in March the complainant had contact with Nana Serwah on the farm and she promised to find someone to purchase the farm and only needed GHC 800 to enable her to bring the buyer.

The complainant became convinced and Nana Serwah later directed him to transfer the money into Samuel Adu’s account.

On March 25, the complainant after receiving the Accounts Number of Samuel Adu deposited GH¢400 into the account as part payment.

Nana Serwah later conspired with Samuel Adu, Kofi Akese and Kofi Wadie to withdraw the money from the account and switched off their mobile phones.

A report was made to the police and the accused persons were arrested.

They admitted the offences in their caution statements and refunded the money to the Police and after investigations they were charged with the offence.
