Financial constraints hit Ghana ahead of African Beach Soccer Championship

cediGhana is on the brink of missing out on a maiden appearance at the African Beach Soccer Championship due to financial constraints.

The national beach soccer team are scheduled to make a historic appearance at the continental championship fixed for May 22 – 26 in El Jadida, Morocco; but challenges with raising funds is set to throw the dream apart.

The Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) has until the close of Tuesday, May 7, to confirm their participation or otherwise to the organizers of the tournament.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, President of the GBSA told GNA Sports that organizers handed them a lifeline extension to confirm their participation and  are racing against time to meet the deadline.

He said his outfit is negotiating with some institutions and is poised for a convincing feedback before the time limit elapses.

The GBSA President said the team made up of players selected from ongoing National Beach Soccer League have been preparing fervently for the competition which also serves the African qualifier for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti in September.

The finalists will represent the continent at the tournament billed for 18-28 September in the Caribbean Island of Tahiti.

Senegal are the reigning African champions after beating Nigeria 7-4 in the final in the 2011 edition in Casablanca, Morocco.
