African leaders urged to stop ad-hoc approach in solving people’s problem

Housing_PopulationThe Right Reverend Professor Osei Safo-Kantanka, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, has urged African leaders to end the ad-hoc and half-hearted approach towards solving problems facing their peoples.

He said the situation where policies were influenced by selfish interests, particularly, of the politicians, was unhelpful to the progress and development of the continent.

The Rt Rev Prof Safo-Kantanka, who was speaking at the opening of the 52nd annual synod of the Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church on Friday, said issues relating to health, education, human resource development, employment, sanitation, energy and infrastructural development, necessarily demanded long-term planning and policies.

He insisted that challenges would have to be tackled head-on to prevent them from recurring.

The three-day conference is being held at Tepa in the Ahafo-North District under the theme: “Now give me this hill country of the Anakites”.

It is being used to evaluate the progress made in the past year and discuss the way forward to grow the church.

The Rt Rev Prof Safo-Kantanka spoke of the need for the church to take a critical look at its impact on society and accept to do more to bring hope, to the people.

He said as a church, they believed in holistic ministry and therefore ought to work hard to help improve the lives of people through the provision of education, health, water and other social amenities.

He urged the various circuits to support vocational and technical training of the youth to aid them to become employable.
