Handle market premium with caution – Health workers tell Gov’t

cediThe Health Workers Union (HSWU) of the Trade Union Congress, has call on government to address the concerns of public service workers especially about the payment of market premium.

A statement released in Accra on Friday by Mr Abu Kuntulo, General Secretary of HSWU and copied to the Ghana News Agency, warned that there could a potential industrial action if the issue is not handled properly.

It said HSWU is aware of the establishment of a technical committee to deal with all post migration challenges of the Single Spine Salary Structure and called on members to be fair to all.

The statement said: “The government should not take any measures in favour of any group in the public service that will undermine the work of the post migration technical team.”

It called on Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to place all public service workers on the steps commensurate with the number of years served.

The statement explained that, officers appointed as District Director of Health Service would be paid according to the Single Spine pay structure, regardless of their profession in accordance with the principle of equal pay for equal work without distinction of any kind.

“We call on all union members to remain calm while the leadership of the union pursues all the outstanding grievances through dialogue.”
