Establish endowment fund to promote sports – NSA Director

footballDuku Duodu, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of National Sports Authority (NSA) has appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to establish endowment fund to promote sports participation in the country.

He made the appeal while presenting 4,305 footballs to some Senior High Schools (SHSs), Municipal and District Directorates of Education in Brong-Ahafo Region.

Each beneficiary school received 15 footballs while Sunyani and Berekum Municipal Directorates of Education as well as Tano North and Sunyani West District Directorates of Education received 115 footballs each.

Mr Duku explained that monies realised from the funds would be disbursed to local teams and schools to prepare adequately for sporting events.

This, he said  would help unearth, nurture and produce talented footballers and other sportsmen and women for the national teams.

Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Acting Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister emphasised that in addition to physical and mental development, sports promoted peace and social cohesion.

He said  the Region had produced quality footballers to the national team who made the country proud internationally, citing the Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan.

He advised the various physical education coordinators in the beneficiary schools to ensure that the footballs were used for their purposes.
