Traders urge President Mahama to build more markets

john-mahamaSome traders at the Mallam-Atta Market in Accra have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to fulfill his campaign promise of building more markets in the Accra Metropolis and renovating the existing ones that were in bad condition.

The traders said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday over their expectations from the President after his inauguration on Monday.

Madam Joyce Fosua, a trader, pointed out that President John Mahama in one of his campaign tours at the market promised to build more markets in the Accra Metropolis as well as renovate existing ones in bad shape.

She said, some of the traders voted for President Mahama in the December 7 general elections because of the promise made to them and was hopeful that he would not disappoint them.

“The Malam-Atta Market is located in one of the strategic areas in Accra but the whole place does not look good and we are appealing to the President to renovate it for us,” she appealed.

Mr Akpalu Wisdom, a shop owner at Malam-Atta Market congratulated the President for his victory and expressed the hope that he would fulfill his better Ghana agenda promise.

He noted that it was only when the economy was in good shape and enough money in the pockets of people that traders would also witness booming business.

He, therefore, appealed to President Mahama to expand the economy and pay good salaries to public workers as well as stabilize the cedi.

Mr Akpalu also faulted the Accra Metropolitan Assembly for charging higher rates from traders and appealed to the authorities to review the rates.
