Atwima-Boko gripped by fear over gruesome murder

Residents of Boko in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District, have been gripped by fear over the gruesome murder of a fruit seller.

Ataa Osei, 46, and mother of five, was killed by unknown assailants on Friday dawn.

The woman woke up early in the morning as part of her routine to join a commercial vehicle to Kumasi to buy fruits from the market, when she was suddenly attacked and stabbed several times.

There were knife wounds on her right breast, back, right arm and above the upper lip.

Her lifeless body was found near an uncompleted building.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Simon Denteh, Asokwa Crime Officer, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and said the Police suspect robbery.

The police found some coins scattered at the crime scene.

He said the body had been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for autopsy while investigations have started to bring the criminals to justice.

Meanwhile, a 34-year old mentally deranged man had died of gunshot wounds after bullets fired by the police to overpower him caught him in the leg.

Daniel Owusu had brutally murdered his 70-year old mother, Madam Comfort Pinamang, at Abofour Zongo in the Offinso Municipality on Thursday night.

He had slashed her in the back of the neck and driven a knife through the stomach.

Corporal Godwin Ahianyor of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit told the GNA that a report about the killing had been made to the police and when they moved in to arrest Owusu he picked a machete and attempted to slash the officers.

They shot at him in the leg to immobilise him.

He said Owusu died whilst being conveyed to Hospital for treatment.
