20 people die in road crashes in Nkoranza District

accidentTwenty people made up of 15 men and five women died in road crashes in the Nkoranza District of Brong-Ahafo Region from January-December, last year.

Seventy-eight people received injuries 30 of them seriously from 27 vehicles and 16 motorbikes that were involved in the crashes.

This was announced by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Owusu, District Police Commander in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza on Friday.

He expressed concern about the high rate of road crashes in the district and advised drivers and motorists to be vigilant this year to save lives on the roads.

DSP Owusu deplored the attitude of some motor riders who refused to wear helmet and warned that the police would intensify patrols to arrest and prosecute the culprits.

He said drivers should adhere to traffic regulations, while bicycle riders and pedestrians should keep to their lanes in order not to become a hindrance other road users.

On security, DSP Owusu called on the people to co-operate with the police and volunteer information on miscreants to combat crime and enhance peace in the communities.

DSP Owusu advised the public to regard the police as part of the people in their communities and co-operate with them to facilitate peace and security that would promote national development.
