The President John Dramani Mahama has been called upon to devote time and resources to revamp as well as strengthen state institutions in the coming year.

Bishop Bernard Ogyiri Asare, Founder of the Zion Praise Chapel International at Takoradi, said when state institutions and systems are strengthened it would help in facilitating the rapid socio-economic development of the country.

In a New Year message during a watch night service to end the year 2012, Bishop Asare said that most state institutions and systems in the country have become weak whiles no significant activities were being implemented by them.

He said the weaknesses of these state institutions and systems have brought about gross indiscipline among most Ghanaians.

Citing some examples, Bishop Asare said currently, traders have converted pavements in most cities into trading points thereby disrupting both vehicular and pedestrian movement.

Bishop Asare said drivers also disobey traffic regulations leading to needless road crashes- it is as if there were no institutions in place to ensure that drivers comply with the road law.

He said students and the youths have also taken the laws into their hands destroying school and public properties as there were no appropriate authorities and institutions to bring them to order.

He also expressed unhappiness with the wanton destruction of the environment through bad practices by individuals that was depleting the country’s natural resources saying “everybody is doing whatever he likes as if there is no authority in the country”.

Bishop Asare therefore entreated the President to step up his effort in ensuring that heads of institutions work harder while those who fail were sanctioned.

He said indiscipline had the tendency to undermine the implementation of any good programme by the government and urged religious bodies and the public to pray fervently for the President and people in authority to ensure that the year 2013 becomes a prosperous one for the country.
