EC receives results from 229 constituencies, John Mahama in the lead

The Electoral Commission (EC) has received results from 229 constituencies from around the country, Mr. Christian Owusu-Parry of the EC has said.

Meanwhile, figures on the EC’s website show that John Mahama has 50.2% of all valid votes cast and Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has 48.3%.

He told GTV in an interviewed monitored by ghanabusinessnews.com, that it is not likely that the final results will be declared today.

He said even though the EC projected that the final results will be announced 72 hours after the elections, the hitches caused by the malfunctioning of the biometric verification equipment on Friday December 7, 2012 which necessitated a second day of voting on Saturday December 8, 2012, in some polling stations will not make it possible to collate the results and announce the winner today Sunday December 9, 2012.
