Baba Jamal wins Akwatia seat finally on fourth attempt

Mr Mohammed Ahmed Baba Jamal, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, on Friday won the seat on his fourth attempt.

He polled 20,308 votes to beat the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Kofi Asare of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had 19,737 votes.

In the presidential election, the NPP had 20,506 votes, while the NDC polled 18,953 votes, Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP) had 118 votes, Convention People’s Party (CPP) had 24 votes, Progressive People’s Party (PPP) polled 87 votes, People’s National Convention polled 17 votes with the UFP having nine votes.

The total valid votes cast were 39,752 with rejected ballots being 748 in both presidential and parliamentary.

Earlier in the day, the delay in declaring the results created some tension but Akwatia remained largely calm.

With Mr Baba Jamal winning the seat, supporters of the NDC have been celebrating with cars tooting their horns and motor bike riding stunts.

    we sad abt Baba jamal forget disable deaf district side votes for u bt baba never visit deaf of Boadua lead chairman Alhassan d we thank u next four yrs votes d we will be care well 2016
