Work begins on GH¢14m Sunyani Municipal Assembly office complex
Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, on Tuesday cut the sod for work to begin on a GH¢14 million multi-purpose ultra modern seven-storey office complex building in Sunyani.
The project being financed by Noble Dream Investments Group of Companies, a Kumasi-based financial and real estate development company, would be on Build-Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis.
It is expected to be completed within three years.
The building located near the Civic Centre includes a 1,500 capacity conference hall, banking halls and offices.
Mr Oppong-Ababio expressed concern about the politicization of issues in the Municipality, especially efforts of the Assembly to enhance the socio-economic development of the area.
He noted that the situation did not augur well for the progress of the Municipality and enhancement of the quality of lives of the people but tended to have adverse effect on development.
Mr Oppong-Ababio denied rumours that the Sunyani Traditional Council and the Assembly had connived to sell the land for the project to a businessman for personal gains.
“These rumours are not only false but rather discouraged them in their efforts to ensure holistic development of the Municipality,” he said.
Mr Oppong-Ababio explained that the Assembly did not have the resources to develop the land in the interest of the people, therefore, after an extensive consultation and collaboration with the traditional authority, it was decided that a private operator should be involved to undertake the project on BOT basis.
He called for unity and co-operation among the people for rapid development of the Municipality.
Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawri, Paramount Chief of Sunyani, reminded the management of Noble Dream Investments Group of Companies to implement the project according to designs and specifications.
Mr Kwame Asamoah-Agyemang, Board Member of the company told newsmen that the company had prepared financially and technically to execute and complete the project on schedule.
In a related development, the Assembly earlier handed-over the Chiraa Station sited at the Sunyani Zongo to the management of Ericose Enterprise Limited, a Sunyani-based business concern for rehabilitation to relieve transport operators, travelers, commuters, traders and hawkers of the muddy nature during the rainy season and dust in the dry season.
The project also on BOT basis is expected to be completed within three months at a cost of about GH¢300,000.
