Confusion stalls Special Voting in Sunyani

Confusion among some security personnel halted the Special Voting at the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Headquarters in the evening of the voting for some time.

This forced the Brong-Ahafo Regional Directorate of the Electoral Commission (EC) to create an additional polling station for the personnel with names beginning with G-Z but some of them were anxious to jump the queue and were resisted by their colleagues.

At the close of voting at 1700 hours there was long queue so the EC officials turned themselves into ‘security men’ to police the queue and prevent anyone from joining.

When the confusion broke out about 670 out of the 1,132 eligible voters had cast their ballots.

The batteries for the verification machine at the second polling station run-down which also delayed the process.

Mr Samuel Boadu, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the EC told newsmen that all the voters in the queue would exercise their franchise, noting that provision was being made for a lighting system at the parking lot of the Police Headquarters.
