Ghana to hold first local rice festival

A professional group is to organize Ghana’s first-ever local rice festival in the capital, Accra coming this November.

The festival is to showcase local and exotic culinary dishes made of local rice varieties.

The three-day event is put together by the Ghana Rice Inter-professional Body (GRIB), a national umbrella organization of rice stakeholders.

A statement from the group says there will  also be training workshops for stakeholders in the rice sector to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities in the sector and introduce new initiatives targeted at improving the capacity of stakeholders to produce more rice for local and international consumption.

Themed “Growing a vibrant rice industry through public-private partnership for food security”, the event is scheduled to take place at the Efua-Sutherland Park in Accra from Wednesday November 7 to Friday November 9, 2012.
