Tigo, Expresso lose as Ghana’s mobile SIM users reach 24.4 million in August 2012 – NCA

The total mobile subscriber base in Ghana stands at 24,438,983 as at the end of August 2012, the National Communications Authority (NCA) announced on its website today October 3, 2012.

Mobile operators, Tigo and Expresso recorded some losses in their respective subscriber base.

According to the NCA figures, market leader MTN had a marginal increase with a subscriber base of 11,017,581 representing 45% of total market share.

Vodafone’s subscriber base rose to 4,901,555 representing 20% of the total market share while Tigo recorded a marginal subscriber base dip closing at 3,684,951 which represents 15% of the market.

Airtel, on the other hand, increased its subscriber base to 3,042,409 securing 12% of the market share.

New entrant Glo continues to rise in its subscriber base. It currently has a subscriber base of 1,613,688 representing 7% of the total market share, according to the national regulator.

Expresso though, decreased its subscriber base to 178,799.The 178,799 represents 1% of the total market share.
