GIFEC opens ultra modern resource center for MUSIGA

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), on Friday commissioned an ultra modern resource center at a cost of GH¢80,000 for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in Accra.

The center, equipped with 16 computers out of a total of 45 computers presented to MUSIGA by GIFEC, has state of  the art facilities.

Each of MUSIGA’s regional offices would receive two out of the remaining 29 computers.

The resource center is to train members of MUSIGA to improve their skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the music industry.

Mr Kofi Attoh, Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of GIFEC, said music had always been part of life and beneficial to society as it entertained and educated.

He said GIFEC had established 120 community information centers across the country with 10 computers with internet facilities which aimed at promoting ICT in all the communities.

Mr Attoh said the resource center was an investment for MUSIGA and promised to train it members throughout the country in ICT, adding, “I hope GIFEC would get the returns from MUSIGA in no time.”

He said GIFEC was not committed to only MUSIGA, but was also supporting the Ghana Writers Association to promote their work with ICT.

Mr Attoh said GIFEC also intended to train farmers in all communities that information centers had been established on how to use ICT in their various farming fields.

Mr Bessa Simons, Second Vice President of MUSIGA, said the center would help the executive and members of the union in conducting research to upgrade their skills in the industry.

He said the union was advocating for the construction of an ultra modern theater which could contain about 10,000 audience with the state of the art facilities and expressed the hope that GIFEC would contribute its quota to its construction.

Mr Simons said the center would not only benefit MUSIGA members but also the society at large and thanked GIFEC for the gesture with the assurance that the center would be used for its intended purpose.

GIFEC is an Agency of the Ministry of Communication to facilitate the provision of basic telephony to un-served and underserved communities in the country.
