The Central Gonja District in collaboration with the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has provided a mechanized potable water facility to the  Tinkronpe community District.

The installation of the machine would benefit over 1000 residents of the community and benefit other nearby communities and help prevent an outbreak of water-borne diseases often associated with the area.

Handing over the GH¢196,000 facility to the people on Wednesday, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Salisu Be-Awuribe, appealed to the people to take good care of the facility and endeavour to contribute something to ensure its regular maintenance.

He asked them not to defecate or bury the dead close to water bodies as such practices could contaminate their sources of drinking water.

Mr Be-Awuribe said several of such facilities have been provided in some parts of the district to ensure that the people got the better share of the Better Ghana Agenda noting that boreholes and other dugouts have equally been provided to serve the needs of the society.

Engineer Ahmed Ewura, District Director of Community Water and Sanitation Agency, said the mechanized water was drawn from some wells, treated and redistributed to three stand-pipes in the community one of which was located in the community’s school.

He said the UNICEF collaborated with the District under its I-WASH project which is aimed at improving water and sanitation provisions across the country stressing that people should take sanitation issues seriously to avoid diseases.
