Ghana FA Boss shuns London Olympics assignment to attend Mills’ funeral

Kwesi Nyantakyi – GFA Boss

The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi will prematurely end his work with FIFA at the London Olympics Games to attend the state funeral of the country’s late President, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.

According to an FA statement, FIFA boss Sepp Blatter has granted Nyantakyi’s request to leave the competition to pay his last respects to the Late Pro Mills, who died July 24, 2012 at 68 years old.

Nyantakyi, who is a member of the FIFA Olympics Games Organising Committee, was expected to stay on working with FIFA until August 13 but the funeral for President Mills will be held in Accra from August 8-10.

Nyantakyi worked for FIFA at the London Games as a Match Commissioner.

“But he has decided to forfeit the rest of the assignments with FIFA to pay his respects after he approached the world governing body over his wish to attend the funeral of President Mills,” the statement said.

“It is only right that the GFA pays the highest respects to the man who has contributed immensely to Ghana, the Black Stars, Hearts of Oak and Ghana sports in general,” Nyantakyi was quoted as saying.
