Ghana, Brazil to participate in South African tourney

Ghana’s U-20 team, the Black Satellites are scheduled to participate in an invitational eight-nation tournament in Cape Town, South Africa from 24 May to 3 June this year.

The tournament, which is been  organised by the South African Football Association (SAFA) will also feature Egypt, Nigeria, Cameroon, Japan, Brazil and Argentina.

According to information gathered by GNA Sports from sources at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the eight teams will be housed into two groups of four teams each and will play on a round-robin basis with the top two sides in each group progressing to the semi finals and eventually the final.

Meanwhile, Head Coach Orlando Wellington has named 30 players for the invitational.

The squad who are dominated largely by players from the Premier League are expected to report to camp at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram in the Dangme West District of the Greater Accra Region on Monday, April 2, 2010.

The squad will be pruned down to 23 before the team embarks on their trip to South Africa.

The Satellites will use the tournament to gauge their preparations for the qualifiers of the African Youth Championship.
