ECOWAS unveils new West African cook stove programme

The ECOWAS has launched a new regional cook stove programme as part of efforts to promote efficient energy consumption in West Africa.

The programme, launched by the ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure, Mr. Ebrima Njie at a bio-energy Forum in Bamako, Mali, is an initiative by ECOWAS, the European Union (EU) and the German International Development Agency (GIZ), to help Member States develop efficient cooking facilities.

Commissioner Njie thanked the Manager of Energy Services at the GIZ, Mrs. Marlis Kees and the agency’s office in Abuja for working tirelessly with the ECOWAS Directorate of Energy to develop the programme, according to a statement from the regional bloc March 20, 2012.

Mr, Njie said ECOWAS would continue to support the creation of sustainable structures for production and technological development related to efficient and clean cooking stoves.
