ECG worried about huge debts

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has complained that individuals and some educational institutions in the Central Region owe the company huge sums of money.

He explained that the debts, particularly owe by educational institutions, were accrued before the introduction of the pre-paid meter.

Mrs Jacqueline Ofori-Atta, Central Regional Director of ECG, who expressed dissatisfaction at a meeting of regional heads of departments at Cape Coast on Monday, appealed to the debtors to settle their bills to enable the ECG to provide good services to the public.

When the GNA demanded explanation to rampant power cuts in the Elmina area on Tuesday, the ECG Regional Director attributed the situation to the Volta River Authority.

Some residents have expressed worry about the power outage, which occurred for long period daily in Elmina, and they had threatened to storm the electricity offices at Elmina to register their protest.
