Three arrested for stealing cocoa

Three persons were on Tuesday arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command for stealing cocoa beans.

The three suspects were Derrick Owusu, a diver, 22, Kinsley Danquah, 28 and Ibrahim Tanko, 29.

Briefing newsmen at Koforidua, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kwabena Gyamera Yeboah, Eastern Regional Police Commander, said on Saturday February 04, this year, the Suhum Police patrol team signaled a taxi to stop but the driver sped off.

The police chased the taxi and caught up with it at Gogease near Suhum but those in it bolted leaving the driver behind and he was arrested.

DCOP Yeboah said on their way back to Suhum they stopped a taxi but the people in it fled into the bush leaving two others.    A search on the first taxi revealed a half sack of cocoa beans and the second had nine sacks of cocoa beans, which were allegedly stolen from Adwumpa Society at Onupapam and Ominako cocoa sheds.

He said the two vehicles had been impounded and the suspects would be put before court after investigations.
