Mining firms must observe safety measures to protect employees – Minerals Commission

Officials of the Inspectorate Division of the Western Regional office of the Minerals Commission (MC) have appealed to mining companies to ensure the safety of their employees by providing them with protective gadgets.

The officials said mining was risky and required that mining companies adhered strictly to safety measures.

The officials are Mr Evans Adade, Senior Inspector, Mr Desmond Boahen, Inspector, Mr Obiri-Yeboah Twumasi, Principal Inspector and Mr Isaac Kuuwan Mwinbelle, Inspector.

They were resource persons at a recent workshop on safety held by the Western Regional office of the Commission.

They appealed to mining companies to attach importance to the health needs of their employees.

Later in an interview with the GNA, Mr Issac Kuuwan Mwinbelle, Inspector of Mines, said the mineral sector in the Western Region recorded five deaths of employees and four were injured in 2011.

He appealed to companies to take measures to avoid industrial accidents.
