Chief seeks help to expel Fulani cattle herders

The Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II, has called for governmental assistance in driving away Fulani cattle herders from the area to forestall the destruction of farms and water bodies.

He said the Fulani herdsmen are known to be the major cause of bushfires in some parts of the area as they set fire to the grass for fresh grass to grow early to feed their cattle adding that no chief in his domain had sold or given out land to the Fulani cattle herders in the area.

Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng said this when addressing the chiefs and people of the Traditional Area at the Akwasidae festival at Abene in the Kwahu East District.

He appealed to the government to expedite action on the Kwahu portion of the Kumawu, Konongo and Kwahu Water Project to solve the acute water problem facing communities on the Kwahu Ridge.

The Adontenhene of the Kwahu area, Nana Aseidu Agyeman III, appealed to the government to re-construct the Nkawkaw/Mpraeso road before this year’s Easter festivities and advised the people in the area to bury their political differences to ensure peace in the area during the coming elections.

Mr Samuel Asamoah, the Kwahu East District Chief Executive, said a security taskforce had been monitoring the activities of the Fulani herdsmen for sometime and that some of them who flouted the laws of the land had been arrested and were being processed for  court.
