Dr. Vanderpuije - Accra Mayor

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Thursday continued its demolition exercise of illegal structures along the railway line at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

Last week-end fire gutted about 100 illegal structures at Odorna along the railway line called ‘ECOMOG’ at Circle, destroying goods and properties worth several milions of Ghana cedis but there were no lost of human life.

Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, AMA Chief Executive, last Monday directed the task force to demolish all illegal structures along the railway line fowwoing the  fire outbreak.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency at the site, some of the affected victims claimed they were not given  prior notice to quit while other squatters said they did not have enough time to salvage some of their belongings.

However, AMA officials at the site debunked such allegations and said  they were informed and given ample time to quit the area before the demolition exercise.

“We have no option than to seek for police protection for forceful ejection,” he added.
