Motor traffic offenders in Central Region pay GH¢69,985 court fines

A total of GH¢69,985 was realized from court fines imposed on motor traffic offenders who were prosecuted in various courts from January to December 2011 in the Central Region.

Police Superintendent  Paul Adu-Hene, commander of the Cape Coast  division of the Motor Traffic and Transport Union (MTTU) who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interviews in Cape Coast On Wednesday, said  1048 motor traffic offences  were  reported  from January to December last year.

He said out of the figure 792 were sent to the court, of which 579 were convicted, whiles 70 were acquitted and discharged.

According to him, 67 cases were awaiting trial while 145 cases were still under investigation.

Superintendent Adu-Hene said 76 of the offenders were subjected to bench warrant arrest and that a total of 111 warning letters and intervention cases had also been brought to his out fit.
