NADMO to host exercise on Pandemic Disaster Response

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in partnership with the United State Africa Command (USAFRICOM), would host a five-day table top simulation exercise on Pandemic Disaster Response from February 6-10.

The exercise is to strengthen national response to pandemics and other disasters through enhanced civil-military cooperation and harmonisation of response operations.

It would also achieve National Pandemic Contingency Plan (NPCP), enlighten leadership of Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and stakeholders in disaster management to better understand their roles and responsibilities in the NPCP, ensure better understanding of the role of International Community in the NPCP to enhance capacity building efforts by expanding the work initiated for pandemic response to an ‘all-hazards’ approach to emergency management.

This was contained in a statement signed by NADMO National Coordinator, Mr Kofi Portuphy, copied to Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra.

It explained that the exercise would promote multi-agency cooperation in the framework of response to severe pandemic and other complex humanitarian emergencies.

More than 65 key stakeholders, from the ECOWAS countries would participate in the exercise, including senior officers in positions capable of influencing policy directions and capacity building in emergency and disaster management.

For effective multi-agency cooperation in the response to pandemic, the exercise would have a breakout groups on the theme: “Health, Operations, Logistics, Communication and Security”.

Other collaborators in the exercise include Ghana Armed Forces and Ghana Health Services.
