Trader jailed nine years for defilement

A  trader who defiled a 13-year-old pupil was on Wednesday sentenced to nine years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

Daniel Efeaka, 35, pleaded not guilty to defilement.

The Court presided over by Mrs Justice Georgina Mensah-Datsa at the end of the trial found Efeaka guilty and convicted him accordingly.

Police Chief Inspector I.A.A. Ahor, prosecuting, said the complainant was mother of the victim, they both lived at Kotobabi, while Efeaka resides in the same area.

Chief Inspector Ahor said on August 28, 2011 at about 12:30 noon, the complainant sent the victim to buy biscuits for her younger sister who was crying.

The victim therefore went to the convict’s shop to buy the biscuit and when she gave the money to the convict, he placed the biscuit on a table in the shop and asked her to come and pick it up.

As soon as the victim entered the shop, Efeaka pulled her and covered her mouth with his hand and defiled her.

After the act, the prosecutor said the victim went home and reported the matter to her mother who lodged a complaint with the  Kotobabi Police.

The Police issued the victim with a medical form to enable her undergo treatment and Efeaka was arrested.

In another development, the Court remanded into Police custody a 19-year-old trader, Joseph Mensah for sodomy.

Mensah who had his plea reserved would re-appear on January 17.

The complainant is a fisherman and father of the victim.

The prosecution said on January 2, this year, the accused early in the morning lured the victim aged nine into his room and had anal sex with him.

Soon after the act, the victim reported the matter to the complainant and accused person was arrested by the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) personnel who issued a medical form to him (victim) for examination.
