Unity after Parliamentary primaries key to NDC victory in 2012 – DCE

Madam Alijata Sulemana, Sissala East District Chief Executive (DCE), has appealed to all aspiring candidates of the forthcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries to allow decorum to prevail in their campaigns to make the party more united for victory in 2012.

Madam Alijata, who is the only female DCE in the Upper West Region, made the appeal on Saturday in Tumu during the launch of her campaign to contest the parliamentary primaries in the Sissala East Constituency.

Madam Alijata, who goes into the competition for the first time, faces a fierce challenge from five other contestants, including the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Hajia Rafatu Halutie Dubie and Mr. Du Dimah, Deputy NDC Upper West Regional Chairman.

The DCE noted that though the Parliamentary seat was currently for the NDC, the chances of retaining it in the 2012 elections were slim if they failed to elect a proactive and a selfless person to lead them.

She said with the experience as an Assembly woman and a DCE, she was the right person capable of retaining the seat and appealed to delegates to vote massively for her to do the job for them.

Madam Alijata said if she won the primaries and the seat, she would work closely with the DCE to bring development to the area.

Mr. Baro Premus, a tutor at the Tumu Training College (TUTCO) and the Patron of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at the College, said TEIN appreciated the recognition she gave them as a DCE and would therefore not hesitate to throw their weight behind her.

He said Madam Alijata had proved to be a democrat, a team worker, a unifier and a development oriented person and should be given the nod not only for her to retain the seat for the NDC but also to bring development to the area.

The TEIN Patron cautioned all aspirants to note that the interest of the NDC was bigger than any individual and advised that they went about their campaigns in a civil manner that would not generate acrimony.

Ms. Sahada Kanton, leader of the Ladies Wing of Madam Alijata’s campaign team, described the DCE as somebody who was very passionate about the welfare of her people.

The campaign launch was well attended by some of the delegates, party supporters and sympathisers dressed in Alijata campaign T-Shirts amidst dancing to brass band music.
