Majority leader Avoka goes unopposed for Zebilla NDC primaries

Mr. Cletus Avoka - Majority Leader in Parliament

Mr Cletus Avoka, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Zebilla Constituency, is the only aspirant who has filed to contest the seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This means on January 21, 2012 when party delegates go to the polls to elect a candidate in the constituency, he would be endorsed unopposed by the delegates.

Speaking to the GNA at Zebila on Saturday, the Party’s Constituency Secretary, Mr Moses Abugre, explained that the party opened nomination for the primaries from November 24 to December 23.

According to him by the close of the scheduled date it was only Mr Avoka who had filed his papers, thus making him unopposed.

He stressed that the fact that Mr Avoka, who was also the Majority leader in Parliament went unopposed, was a clear depiction of his hard work and the unity within the party at the constituency.

Mr Abugre stated that all the delegates had agreed to work tirelessly for the Party to maintain the seat, adding that the future of the party in the constituency was bright come the 2012 elections.

“What also informed the constituents to support Mr Avoka to contest for the fourth time as MP is the trust and confidence President Atta Mills has in him by making him the Minister of the Interior and subsequently the Majority Leader in Parliament.”

Returning the nomination form to the Party’s office at Zebilla on behalf of the incumbent MP, Mr Moses Aduk-Pam, a member of the Party, enumerated a number of development projects the MP had brought to the area including health posts, dormitories for schools as well as about 60 boreholes.

“The MP gave his support in ensuring that there were no schools under trees in the Zebilla Constituency and its environs. He is also supporting the District Assembly on the construction of a road linking Zebilla to Burkina Faso to open up businesses with the neighbouring country.”

Mr Aduk-Pam noted that due to the numerous development projects the incumbent MP had brought to the constituency many supporters of the New Patriotic Party and other parties were joining the NDC.
