Work begins on Adentan District Police Headquarters

Deputy Commissioner of Police Frank Adu Poku, Director General of Police Services, on Thursday cut the sod for work to begin on the construction of Adentan District Police Headquarters in Accra.

The project is to strengthen community policing and complement efforts of the police in combating crime, protecting and ensuring safety of the community.

Mr Paul Tawiah Quaye, the Inspector General of Police, said in an address read on his behalf that the Police must be adequately equipped to enable them perform efficiently and effectively.

He said insufficient resources and absence of infrastructure and equipment seriously undermined their inability to effectively combat crime to meet the expectations of the public.

He appealed to the people of Adentan to assist in financing the project and assist the police since the government alone could not fully and adequately equip the service.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Stephen Ahiatafo, Adentan District Police Commander, said due to urbanization there was high demand for police service  and police personnel must be provided with a more conducive and comfortable place and logistics.

He said the fight against crime was a collective responsibility and urged Adentan Municipal Assembly to assist in the maintenance of law and order.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Rose Bio Atingah, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, said throughout the world policing had become a collective responsibility and therefore urged the community to partner and contribute to the execution of the project.

DCOP Mina Ayim, Director of Community Policing, said the establishment would help strengthen security in the community.

Madam Nubyl Kakra Van-Lare, Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, said the assemble considered security as a critical area of concern and would therefore collaborate with the Police to ensure that their presence was felt within the municipality.

She expressed appreciation to the Adentan District Police Administration for their proactive approach to security issues and assured them that the assembly would play a major role in the project.
