Fire service personnel schooled on financial management

A two-day financial management and leadership seminar was on Thursday organized for the Central Regional Ghana National Fires Service (GNFS) accountants and storekeepers with a call on them to take the financial management of the services seriously.

The seminar which was on the theme “Financial Management and Leadership” was geared towards sharpening the skills of the personnel on the Finance and Administration Act 654, Public Procurement Act 663, Internal Audit Agency Act 658, as well as the Three Tier Pension Scheme and the Single Spine Salary Structure.

Addressing the participants in a speech read for him, the Regional Commander Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Kwesi Ankonan Quayson  said the nature of the  service required them to make judicious use of  its financial resources.

Mr Quayson commended the government for its consistent disbursement of funds for the smooth running of the service but pleaded with the government to increase funds since it is not able to solve the numerous challenges facing the service at the regional level.

The Regional Fire accountant, Divisional Officer III Michael Adom, expressed concern that most of the accountants and storekeepers at the service did not know much about the Finance and Administration Act 654, Public Procurement  Act 663, the internal Audit Agency Act 658 as well as the three Tier Pension scheme and the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) and that everything possible would be done to build their capacity in these provisions.
