Korle-Bu Hospital receives equipment

Tullow Ghana Limited, on Monday presented five new emergency operating theatre modules worth €90,000 to the Department of Anaesthesia at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, in Accra.

In addition, the company is financing the initial set up and training, servicing and refresher training for technicians for a period between 12 and 24 months and also bare the cost of spare-parts estimated at at €10,000.

The emergency operating module comprises Glostavent, a suction machine, vital signs patient monitor and a back-up portable anaesthetic machine.

The Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Professor Nii Otu Nartey, expressed appreciation to Tullow for procuring the equipment to support the Department.

He said the equipment would be put to good use and well-maintained.

Mr Dai Jones, President and General Manager of Tullow Ghana, said the company donated the equipment to the hospital to enable it to effectively delivery it mandate.

He said the donation was in response to a request by the Department of Anaesthesia for support in acquiring anaesthetic equipment.

Mr Jones pledged the commitment of Tullow to continue to support the Department to improve the welfare of people.

The hospital recently suspended all surgery and handled only urgent and emergency operations.

Some emergency surgeries were either delayed or referred to other hospitals due to the lack of capacity in the department.
