KNUST Vice-Chancellor calls for good partnership between stakeholders of education

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST),says the success of any educational system depends on level of partnership and cooperation between all stakeholders, such as teachers, students, the Government and parents.

According to him, it is imperative that stakeholders identify and play their respective roles very well so that the standard of the educational system could improve for the better.

Prof Ellis was speaking at the 34th anniversary and 2nd speech and prize-giving day of Simms Senior High School at Fawoade in the Kwabre East District.

“Achieving academic excellence, the role of stakeholders”, was the theme.

He said there was little doubt about the fact that the nation’s quest to develop and remain independent basically depends on education.

The Vice-Chancellor indicated that the quality of human resource base of every nation is undoubtedly one of the most valued and important resources through which that country could accelerate development and achieve competitive advantage.

Mr Joseph Onyina, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, praised the founder of the school, Mr Simms Kofi Mensah for his vision and advised the students to take advantage of the opportunity and study hard.

He urged them to show courtesy and obey school rules and regulations which are aimed at propelling them into responsible people in the future.

Madam Faustina Barden, the Headmistress of the school, called for staff bungalows for more teachers to stay on campus and enforce discipline, a science laboratory, administrative block, assembly hall and a spacious staff common room.

She said the school has never benefited from the Government’s distribution of buses and pick-ups and therefore appealed for a big Bus to transport students and staff and a pick-up for the Headmistress.

She said total enrolment of the school stands at 1600 for form 2,3 and 4. Form one admission is in progress.

Madam Barden commended the school’s Parent Teacher Association for its numerous contributions towards the development of the school.

The School’s Senior Prefect appealed to the authorities to purchase entertainment instrument for students to prevent them from going out to other schools to enjoy themselves.

He also called for the provision of ironing bay for students.

The Founder of the school, Mr Kofi Mensah, was happy that what he did some years back has yielded good results and expressed his gratitude to the past and present management of the school for their efforts.

He also echoed the plea of the Headmistress and appealed to the Government to come to the aid of the school.

Mr Kofi Kodua Sarpong, Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who chaired the function, promised to donate 10 computers to the school.
