Ministry of Tourism announces Domestic Tourism Fair and Exhibition next year

The Ghana Domestic Tourism Company in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism on Thursday announced The Ghana Domestic Tourism Fair and Exhibition (GDTFE) 2012.

The bi-annual three-day, event will be held from September 6- September 8.

A statement issued in Accra and copied to Ghana News Agency said the aim of GDTFE is to promote Ghana’s domestic tourism industry and expose its potential to local and foreign investors.

It is on the theme: “Re-positioning Ghana’s Domestic Tourism for Growth and Employment”.

The event seeks to provide a platform for expansion and opportunities for Ghana’s domestic tourism, project domestic tourism as a potential lead sector in the tourism industry and the economy.

It also aims at creating awareness of Ghana’s domestic tourism, present Ghana’s tourist potential as a major investment portfolio, and Ghana’s competitive advantage in Africa in tourism and trade.

GDTFE will expose existing trade and investment opportunities, introduce the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the country, network and create partnership with stakeholders.

Organisations from every aspect of Ghanaian tourism will be taking part as products, heritage, culture, eco-tourism, leisure, lifestyle, events, and tourist attractions will all be promoted, exhibited and discussed.

“Whether you are involved in the industry itself, seeking out more information, or are just looking to be a part of something special, the Ghana Domestic Tourism Fair and Exhibition 2012 provides a unique opportunity,” the statement said .

The Event Manager of the Fair and Exhibition, Ms Millicent Atana stated: “The passing of the Tourism Bill is in the right direction and stakeholders in the industry now needs to make a concerted effort to ensure growth in the sector, particularly domestic tourism.

“The domestic tourism industry certainly requires urgent capitalisation, upgrade of basic infrastructure, strategic marketing and promotion to make it attractive and viable and increase its contribution to the GDP as well as provide employment. We hope this event makes a contribution in that direction”.

The event will also convey the Ghana Domestic Tourism Business Forum 2012 which will feature an array of keynote speakers on the theme: “Re-positioning Domestic Tourism for Growth and Employment”.

Ms Atana further added that “The objective of the Business Forum 2012 is to deliberate on certain areas of the business, investment, infrastructure and marketing which are critical to the overall strategic development of our tourism industry to ensure sustainable growth and development”.

The statement said a press launch has been scheduled next year under the auspices of Ministry of Tourism and sponsors.

It said GDTFE 2012 would see performances and local promotions revolving around cuisine and presentations, with more than 200 expected booths participating.

Other activities include Miss Domestic Tourism Ghana 2012 and DOT (Domestic Tourism) Ghana Musical Concert, which will feature an array of Ghanaian musicians and the DOT Kiddies competition.
