Ex-employees of Goldfields petitions Ghana Chamber of Mines on salary arrears

Five hundred and ninety-one former employees of Goldfields Ghana Limited has appealed to Mr. Tony Aubynn, the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Chamber of Mines, to ensure that the company pays salary arrears due them.

A petition signed by Mr. William Atinkah, leader of the group, copied to GNA at Tarkwa on Tuesday, said the former employees during their service to the company they requested for salary increment after three years of service without salary adjustment.

It said: “The company informed the ex-employees that due to the fall in gold price at the world market, management needed to suspend operations, and the company gave some money to the workers and promised to re-engage them when the price of gold increase.”

The petition said when the price of gold picked up, management told the former employees that the company had been closed down and added that since 1999 when the company asked the former employees to go home, no money has been paid to any of them.

The former employees congratulated Mr. Obeng for assuming his new appointment and CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines and said they appreciated the efforts he made on the pending issue when he was Co-operate Affairs Manager of the company.
