61st Accra open Golf Tourney opens October 27

The Achimota Golf Club will host the 61st edition of the Accra Open Golf Tournament from October 27 – 30, 2011, a statement from the club says.

The tournament, first played at the Achimota Golf Club in 1950, will bring together professional and amateur golfers from all over the country as well as the African continent.

The statement said 130 amateurs and 55 professionals have confirmed their interest in the competition in addition to golfers from Cote D’Ivoire, Gabon, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo.

The overall winner in the Professional division takes GH¢10,000 with trophies and other consolidated prizes.

The participating clubs are the Achimota Golf Club; Royal Golf Club, Kumasi; Tema Golf Club; Celebrity Golf Club; Obuasi Golf Club; Takoradi Golf Club; Tafo Golf Club; Benso Golf Club and Nsuta Golf Club.

There will also be a Special Youth Competition which will involve 16 Youths from across the country, it said.
