Fire outbreak at Ridge Hospital
The Ridge Hospital in Accra on Tuesday experienced a fire outbreak at the Emergency Staff Quarters.
The fire, which started at about 1000 hours, burned down the room of Mrs. Charlotte Mensah, a nurse who was on duty at the time.
Items burnt included provisions, furniture, documents and personal effects.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) helped to put off the fire.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
According to Mrs Mensah, she operated a provision shop from the room.
The Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Obeng Apori congratulated the GNFS for its timely intervention.
He said staff of the Hospital, who had undergone fire drills, started fighting the blaze before the GNFS arrived.
According to him, the Hospital had since 1928 not undergone any serious refurbishment and for that matter was exposed to many challenges including fire.
He said this was not the first fire outbreak at the Hospital.
Dr Opori told the Ghana News Agency that the victims were psychologically traumatised and they would be given the necessary attention.
