Ecobank Accra Mall branch robbed in 10 minutes – Police
Armed robbers this morning stormed into and robbed the Ecobank branch located in Ghana’s biggest shopping centre, the Accra Mall.
Chief Superintendent Ackah Fosu of the Airport Police said the robbery lasted for about 10 minutes and the matter is under investigations.
Some eye witnesses at the scene describing the robbery to ghanabusinessnews.com, said the robbers numbering about three came on a motor bike between the hours of 8am and 9am Thursday July 21, 2011.
They said one of the robbers was on the motorbike and the other two who were wearing masks, alighted and walked into the banking hall. According to them, one of the robbers was wielding a pistol.
One witness said the robbers kept the entrance of the bank opened while they robbed.
“Anyone who entered the bank to do business was asked to keep quiet and sit down so it appeared as though the bank was operating in a normal way,” one witness who gave his name simply as Emmanuel said.
Bank and Mall officials however, would not comment on the robbery when contacted, and it is not known yet how much money the robbers got away with.

This is a planned thing. That place is always busy, so how come they could not be arrested. This is Ghana for you. We live to see.
this robbery seems to be abstruse to me… how can 3 robbers be able to succeed in such a public place? hmm
hm mm. this is amazing ooo. so they want to tell Ghanaian that the whole Accra Mall couldn’t get any security services to arrest this rubbers? this must be a set up. a whole biggest shopping mall in west Africa.
Poor security by the bank as well as the mall itself . I am taken aback that the bank had no security at the time of the robbery.Secondly,I am also shock that Accra mall had no internal security to monitor events at the mall .This is highly unacceptable .Malls are supposed to be fitted with CCTV cameras at the point of entry and exit as well as for all shops within the mall.There should be an internal security whose task is to monitor issues bothering on security at the mall. If these controls were in place am sure the robbery would have been foiled. As it stands now what has happened to Ecobank can therefore happen to any shop at the Accra Mall because there is virtually no security.
My suggestion going forward the bank should employed qualified security officers to man the brances.They should also install CCTV to capture events at the branch daily.Also,the mall should arrange to get an internal security.they should be available through the mall daily to foil such robberies.
eeii, this the 2nd time Ecobank has been robbed.
and to think that no one called the police, as soon as the robbery started

what about the staff in the back office?
they could have called for help
how can u allow them to get away like that?
i will like to get the statement clear is the ecobank inside or out site the mall
