Six drivers pay over GH¢2,000 for traffic offences

The Bibiani Magistrate’s Court has ordered six taxi cab drivers to pay a total of GH¢2,220.00 for road traffic offences.

Kwame Amponsah, Daniel Nkrumah, Emmanuel Asante, Akwasi Kyem, Maxwell Ankrah and Kwabena Boateng would each serve a two-month jail term if they fail to pay the fine.

They had pleaded guilty to charges of stopping and picking passengers at unauthorized places.

Police Chief Inspector Emma Abotsi told the court that their arrest followed a special exercise mounted by officers of the Motor Traffic Transport Unit (MTTU) to enforce road traffic regulations and ensure safety on the roads in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District.
